Content from Hope Network Ministries ![]() Some 300 church leaders attended the first National Shepherd’s Clinic last week in San Antonio. We could not be more pleased with the results. Huge thanks to the Northside Church of Christ who co-hosted the event with Hope Network Ministries. Some highlights: -More than 50 churches were represented. -Participants from Connecticut to California, Washington State to Florida - even a Canadian and a New Zealander! Allison Bagley, Operations Manager of Hope Network, did a very professional job of planning and co-coordinating the entire event. She was aided by the dedicated staff and ministers from the Northside Church of Christ, plus an array of other San Antonio volunteers. The sessions addressed Transitioning: Moving church leadership style from a Managing Board to a Shepherd’s Circle of shepherding, mentoring and equipping. The agenda featured eight case studies from congregations at one stage or another along “Transition Trail” – sharing both successes and difficulties. In addition mini-workshops addressed: Moving your church from control to empowerment, Litigation-proofing your church, and Transitioning your church. Also Chris Seidman and Ronnie Norman presented strong keynote addresses. Feedback sheets gave the presenters unusually high marks. As far as my personal expectations of the clinic are concerned, on a scale of 10, the presenters rated at least a 15 (except maybe for yours truly). An atmosphere of enthusiasm and unity prevailed - even though there was a wide spectrum from more traditional churches to somewhat contemporary churches, and various fellowships represented. Here are a couple of the comments we have received: An Executive Coach says, "This is the best and most helpful conference I ever remember being at." An Elder says, "You should feel great about the large number of elders, staff, and spouses who attended. They seemed to benefit from each of the presentations, and the conversations over meals were of great value. (May God) provide many years for Hope Network to call together church leaders for equipping, educating, and encouraging. You are making a great contribution to the kingdom." A minister says, “The Clinic was the best such event I have ever attended. From Jeff Nelson to Ronnie Norman, everything was excellent. I heard nothing but positive from all of the people I talked with while in San Antonio.” Audio tapes and notebooks of the entire 2003 Clinic are available for sale, by contacting Allison at hopenet@ont.com. AND THE BIG NEWS: At the Shepherd’s Clinic we unveiled our brand new MULTI-MEDIA THEY SMELL LIKE SHEEP SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING PACKAGE. -It is based on my book They Smell Like Sheep, but goes far beyond the book into practical, hands-on skill training for elders and other spiritual leaders. -It is a 12-week (2 hours per session) Video/Workbook/Facilitator Guide training package. -Video presentations set up class discussion/skill learning exercises outlined in the accompanying Participant Notebooks and Facilitator Guide. -The video and notebooks also guide participants through skill learning exercises to be practiced between class sessions. -Video and Facilitators Guide are available for delivery now, but the Participants Notebooks will be delivered in 6-8 weeks. A number of Training Packages were purchased at the Clinic. (Place your order at hopenet@ont.com or call Allison at 210-690-2597) Watch for more about the Spiritual Leadership Training Package on our web site and in various publications. Looking ahead: The dates and venue for National Shepherd’s Clinic 2004 will be announced within the next few weeks. - Lynn Anderson ![]() |
